Professional Development/Education

Professional Development Report May 20, 2011

Our partnership with the Medical Examiner of the Province of Nova Scotia continues and although requests to view autopsies has slowed down considerably, there are still requests coming in, especially as people come upon their credit deadlines. To recap once again, the Medicl Examiners Office has agreed to mentor and provide the opportunity for any licensed embalmer to go to  Halifax and view an autopsy. Each will count for two credit points and can be utilized for credit once every five year period. As an association, we have not sponsord many continuing education seminars since the convention in Digby lat year. In the coming months, our committee plans to offer courses on a monthly/semi-monthly basis at alternationg locations in the province so as to allow everyone equal opportunity. Suggestions for seminar topics are always welcome. We are looking very much forward to the presentaion of Dennis Daulton and the Department of Vital Statistics at our Annual General Meeting and also for the speakers that have been arranged for the upcoming National Convention that is to be held in Saint John, New Brunswick. Should you have a topic of interest that you would like to see a continuing education semiar based on, please feel free to contact me.

Respectfully submitted,

Bruce Varner, Chair
